Lucknow the capital city of Uttar Pradesh is one of the most pristine and multicultural tourist destinations of India

During 18th and the 19th centuries, the place was under the reign of the Nawabs of Awadh. The city is 11th largest city in the country and also the second largest city of North India that contains various architectural wonders, historical monuments.

The name of the city is derived from Lakshman Teela where Lord Rama’s brother stayed after having returned from exile giving the city one of its earliest names Lakhanpur. From 1350 AD to Independence, Lucknow was ruled by Delhi Sultanate, the Mughal Empire, the Nawabs of Awadh, the East India Company and the Britishers. Lucknow people participated actively in India’s Independence movement. The place is known for Chikankaari which is exquisite shadow work embroidery on fine muslin cloth, its elaborate cuisine, large number of Gardens, Lakes and historical monuments.

Lucknow is well connected to other major cities of the country through train, air and bus.

Bara and Chota Imambara

Bara Imambara wherein the word ‘Bara’ means big and ‘Imambara’ means the shrine complex is an important place for the Muslims and it attracts millions of devotees during the religious festival of Muharram. Inside the complex, the central hall which is the largest arched hall in the world, Asifi Mosque and Shahi Bauli, located about 1.5 kilometers there is another architectural masterpiece with a mosaic of green patterns is Chhota Imambara are major attractions.

Hazratganj

Just similar to the crowd puller of Delhi’s Connaught Place and the MG Road of Bengaluru, Hazratganj is a renowned attraction known for shopping. It has number of coffee shops and fine dining restaurants like Jone Hing, Royal Cafe and Chedilal. Paanch Pani Ke Bataashe (Golgappas with five assorted flavoured water) can’t be missed. If you are a bookworm, then watch out for Ram Advani Booksellers. Dilkusha Kothi Palace and Lucknow Residency, the traditional Indian bazaars of Hazratganj contains several shops that sell items ranging from handloom, jewelry, handicrafts and contains various shopping malls, restaurants, movie theaters and a library are the major attractions.

Constantia House

Located on a terraced location, the Constantia House is now housed by the La Martinière College which is one of the only educational institutions to receive a battle honor due to its role during the Seige of Lucknow.

Dr. Ambedkar Park

The modern architectural monument dedicated to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, built in red sandstone is located in Gomti Nagar. The well maintained lawns, various columns and a canal make it a well frequented tourist attraction.

Rumi Darwaza

Rumi Darwaza, a massive gateway is one of the best specimens of Awadhi Style architecture built in 1784. The design is often compared to that of Rome and the Ottoman Empire and marks the entrance to the old city of Lucknow.
